Reenactor and Costuming Workshop

March 21-22, 2020

Edwards Place is privileged to offer a workshop presented by two nationally known reenactors and costumers, Kay Gnagey and Karen Duffy, on March 21-22, 2020. This is a 1 ½ day workshop on Civil War era women’s fashion and comportment. The attendees will receive free entry to a public talk on March 20, free entry to Edwards Place, free entry to the Illinois State Museum, lunch on Saturday, as well as other items. The workshop costs $90 per attendee and will be open to 60 people.

Carpenter Street Hotel is a convenient location to reach Edwards Place in a matter of minutes on foot. Continental breakfast is included with your reservation, and historic dress in the lobby is encouraged, should you be so inclined to dress for the workshop. Our block of rooms will be available until 30 days before the workshop.

Spring Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser

An important meeting between rival mob bosses and madams is taking place at Edwards Place in the 1920s. During the post-meeting party, a mob boss is killed in grisly fashion! Guests will need to put their detective skills to the test to discover which of the six suspects is the murderer.  

Tickets will include dinner, dessert, wine, and entertainment. The event is 21+ only and tickets must be purchased by April 24 at 5 PM. No refunds can be given after April 23 at 5 PM. More catering information will be available soon. 1920s attire (flappers, gangsters) is encouraged.

Tickets go on sale for SAA members on April 7 at 9 AM and for non-members on April 10 at 9 AM.

Camp Edwards Place 2020

Camp Edwards Place is where your child can indulge their love of history at a home that is truly a Springfield treasure. There are a number of camps they can join that all take place in and around this 1833 historic home in the heart of one of our oldest neighborhoods. We have camps for many different age groups.

June 8-12: 3rd-5th grade Archaeology

June 15-19: 3rd-5th grade Civil War

June 22-26: 6th-8th grade and high school Historical Cooking

June 29-July 3: 6th-8th grade Historical Sewing

July 6-10: 3rd-5th grade Civil War

July 13-17: 6th-8th grade and high school Historical Cooking

July 20-24: 3rd-5th grade Life in the 19th Century
