The Room

The hall is the first thing you will see as a guest to Edwards Place. Visitors to Edwards Place would come to call on the family. If the family was not available, visitors would leave a calling card in a dish like the one to the right.

You'll notice that there is a glass-paned door in the back hall. Why is it there? When the Edwards family expanded the home in 1857, they left in the glass-paned door to let in the north light coming in through the new expanded servants' hall. Before electricity, every ounce of sunlight was counted on!
